From Humble Beginnings to Global Reach
- 1913: Carmelo Savarino immigrates from Sicily to Buffalo, NY, and begins hauling goods with his grocery truck, becoming a key figure in local distribution.
- 1948: Carmelo and his sons, Vincent and Joseph, establish Carmelo Savarino & Sons Trucking (CSST).
- 1949–1952: The company is renamed Speed Motor Express (SME); Carmelo retires, leaving the business to his sons.
- 1960s: SME grows by partnering with major clients like General Motors, DuPont, and Sherwin-Williams.
- 1969: Carl Savarino, Joseph’s son, joins the company.
- 1972–1980s: SME expands across Western NY and into New England and the Carolinas.
- 1987: Carl becomes President, marking the third generation of leadership.
- 1994: SME enters warehousing, starting with a 180,000 sq. ft. facility; it now operates over 2 million sq. ft. across 16 buildings. In the 1990’s SME is renamed as SPEED Global Services.
- 2000–2005: SME enters airfreight and international freight forwarding, acquiring G&W International and Royal Customs Brokerage
- 2024: Joey Casullo, Carl’s nephew and Joseph’s grandson, form SPEED International Logistics, as the fourth generation of ownership.
- 2025: SPEED International Logistics moves to 1500 Military Road, Tonawanda, NY 14217. It continues to grow globally, offering freight forwarding, customs services, and cross-border trucking, while honoring its founding values.
